I have an Iphone 4S and I recently upgraded it to the new iOS6. A couple days ago, it all of a sudden, randomly vibrated twice instead of once when I got a text message.... and it's been doing this ever since. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it an iOS problem? It's getting very annoying.....
Go to Settings -> Notifications -> Messages and adjust the "Repeat Alert" parameter to suit you ("Never" means you will be notified just once, when the message comes in.)

Check the vibration pattern you have selected for text messages under "settings >> sounds >> text tone >> vibration".
It's supposed to do that; that feature was introduced in iOS 4.3 in early 2011.
The reason is the iPhone will vibrate once for new email and twice for a new message so if your phone is in your pocket, you know why it's vibrating.
The type of reset they're referring to won't erase your phone, don't worry! Just hold down the home button and top button at the same time until the apple shows up. Your phone will then start up again...you're basically just rebooting like you would your computer. This solves the problem! 🙂
I did a hard reset. (Holding down the home button and the top button at the same time until the apple logo appears).
I reset my phone (again; I reset it the first time I noticed the problem) and the problem seemed to have fixed itself. Maybe try to reset it again? Hopefully this works for you guys!
Yes, my settings is "never", and the vibration text tone is set to default. I didn't change anything and all of a sudden it just vibrates like 4 times. I guess I should go to Apple and see what's wrong with it.....
Okay... maybe I should rephrase that to: It vibrates 4 times then? Like it vibrates twice, then it vibrates twice again. I don't know what's wrong with it...
Mine is doing the exact same thing. Please let me know if you or anyone else can figure out what's going on.
This has also started on mine since the update. It vibrates but the message isn't there then vibrates again as the message is actually visible. Frustrating!!
Same.... maybe it's the new iOS version? I hope they fix this in the next update.

I have the same annoying problem. Resetting the phone may solve the problem but it is not what I am looking for. I don't want to lose my settings, contacts, etc. Does anybody know the real reason?
