Apr 19, 2013 6:58 AM in response to bek76by Ty Ford1,I have run into the same problem with a G-tech 500GB mini drive. Carbon Copy CLoner times out while trying to use it as a backup drive. No daisy chaining, all connected to teh Mac running 10.7.5.
Tony at G-tech wasn't much help, "We have thousands of those drives out there and no one yet has had this problem."
Well Tony, you do now. I tried as different cable last night, same problem, same solution.
Weirdly, the thing worked fine for the first few backups.
The folks at CCC are trying to help.
Regards,
Ty Ford

Aug 12, 2016 7:07 AM in response to bek76by new_spaceship,I also had this problem after awaking my iMac from a sleep.
It still showed my external drive on the desktop and within the finder sidebar but in force quit and right clicking on the finder icon in the dock, both saying it was not responding, I restarted finder to no avail.
I found that the external hard drive had disconnected (the cable had come out slightly) which finder didn't seem to be aware of, after a couple attempts reconnecting the hard drive finder relaunched itself.
This may or may not work for you but i've had this a couple times and it seemed to work. -
