Unable to get past blue screen even after OS reload

I have an older iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. The other day I started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup.

I can get into safe mode. But no regular startup.

I tried disabling bluetooth, thinking that might be related. It didn't help.

I even tried using the install disc to run disc utility. That didn't work so I reloaded the OS.

But I still get hung on the blue screen when trying a normal startup.

All help would be appreciated.

Heloo,

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive

Reboot, test again.

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

/private/var/run/StartupItems

/Library/StartupItems

/System/Library/StartupItems

/System/Library/LaunchDaemons

/Library/LaunchDaemons

I've not had an issue booting into safe mode, as previously noted. I see no weird or new startup items. I see no 3rd party preferences.

I reloaded the OS again last night and still have the same problem. Of course, it is keeping SOME of the settings etc from the old OS since I am not wiping the drive and reloading.

I can't verify whether or not I have some of the last group of files you say may be invisible. One thing booting in Safe Mode also appears to do is make the "find" function not work.

I can't get a normal boot to work which seems to be required to perform some of the solutions I see online.

Like I mentioned before, this happened right after I was playing with a bluetooth speaker. Could a sound or bluetooth file or preference be causing a problem. I'm getting VERY, VERY frustrated.

I've reset the PRAM and the PMU via the reset button. Still the same problem.

ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'd even give a phone number or email if there was a way to do that and have some direct communication.

Thanks!

I continue trying things and looking for answers, but am not sure what else to do. Here is the log of a recent attempt to start my iMac that did not work. I am still only able to boot in safe mode. Again, all help is appreciated.

Here's the link to the thread that gave me the suggestion about the ATI extensions.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3263472?start=15&tstart=0

Any way to know WHICH of the ATI extensions may be causing the problem? Any way to know if that is really the issue? I've run a hardware test and done a ton of other things without getting any positive results.

I also notice my machine seems to run slower without these extensions.

I'm still curious about this issue and open to more input and suggestions. THANKS!!!

Definetly sounds like a Video Card or VRAM issue, sorry to say.

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode)

See this great post by themachead on how to list the extensions in Safe Mode with System Profiler then compare to the extension folder!
