Q: How do I exit full screen mode in Screen Sharing?

I have a Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion, and an iMac running Snow Leopard.  When I use Screen Sharing to remote into my iMac from my MBP and go into Full Screen mode, I can't get back out of it.  I tried the keyboard shortcuts I could find online, and moved my mouse cursor to the top etc, but can't get the menu bar to come up or exit full screen mode.  The only way for me to exit Screen Sharing is to kill the process in the Activity Monitor.  I'm assuming this is not the intended way it's meant to work.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    No, I don't think that's how it is supposed to work.

     

    I don't have a Snow Leopard system at the moment to use as a test target, but I can screen share into a Lion system from my MBP running Mountain Lion, put Screen Sharing into Full Screen on the MBP, then get the MBP menu bar to pop back up by putting the cursor at the top of the screen. Is that what is not working for you?

    No, the menu bar doesn't show up no matter where I put the cursor

    Does it work for you when you run other applications in full-screen, or it just Screen Sharing that isn't showing the menu bar?

    Other apps appear to work fine.  I'm currently using TeamViewer in full screen mode and that works perfectly.

    I had the same issue. And for me it was resolved by simply hovering in the top of the screen for a bit longer. Eventually the menu bar appeared with the possibility to exit full screen mode.

    Right, the cursor has to be jammed clear into the top of the screen.

    well I jammed the cursor at the top for minutes and couldn't close full screen when screen sharing my macbook air on my imac (both OSX10.8.2).   only way out I cou,d get was force quite... Can't be right!!!  any help gratefully received.

    I found that on my Mac Pro dual display setup, the cursor has to be moved to the top of the screen on which the full screen mode was initiated. My OSX menu is on my left monitor. When the screen sharing application has its window on my right monitor on the moment I enter fullscreen mode, the left screen is used to display the remote computer and the right monitor is greyed out.

    Moving the cursor to the top of my left monitor has no effect, even though my local OSX menubar is there, "behind" Screen Sharing and regardless of where the Screen Sharing is displaying its content at that moment.

     

    Moving the cursor to the right screen makes all the difference.

     

    Weird, but good to know.

    polycorpmedia and gein are both right.

     

    You have to move the cursor to the top of the screen on which Screen Sharing is running, AND you have to hover there a LOT longer, it seems to me like more than a second.

     

    It's weird and inconsistent, Apple should fix this.

    I found I had to move the cursor to the very top and then LEFT CLICK.  Only then did the menu bar appear and I could exit screen sharing full screen.

    I had the same problem same situation. macbook pro with lion imac with snow leapord. go to the top of the screensharing menu and double-click that took me out of full screen mode

    The reason why it seems impossible to exit full screen is that it is running in another workspace. The screen sharing menubar that should be activated when you move the mouse to the top of the screen is buggy.

     

    If you have a trackpad, use a three-finger left or right swipe to move back to your local workspace (ie your local computer). Then close screen sharing via the dock icon.
