You need an iMac 2007 or newer:

There were two 24" in 2006 and one in 2007; it depends on which one you have.
Thanks for the info! I have the 2008 model.
The minumum requirement for Mountain Lion is 2GB of RAM, but You should have at least 4GB for it to run smoothly. Also, have at least 20% of free harddrive space for proper operation. Make sure all applications are compatible using www.roaringapps.com. And finally make sure you have a backup before upgrading.
Then you should be fine; do note the other suggestion re. RAM - depending on your workflow, 4 GB is a minimum; if you do any video editing/rendering or other intensive tasks, max out your RAM - OWC (macsales.com) has tested it with 6 GB) - in other words, the more the better the performance.
I appreciate the information. I really should have asked if I can do a direct upgrade from OOS 10.6.8? What do I need to buy?

That's what I needed to know. Thanks!
