mail randomly not saving copies of sent mail

Over the last few days Mail has occasionally not saved a copy of an email I've sent. for example, it didn't save a copy of an email I sent to someone with an aol account the day before yesterday and this morning, but did save a copy of an email I sent her yesterday. There have been one or two other examples but nothing regular. Anything I can do to sto this happening again?
