My wireless keyboard function buttons (volume etc) stopped working

Just yesterday all of the function buttons (f keys for volume screen brightness etc) lost their will to serve, and reverted to really annoying functions like expose/all windows etc.

I tried to reallocate them in system preferences, to no avail

I looked around here for solutions, but all I could find were people who this happened to whilst using Windows. I do not use windows.

I tried reinstalling the firmware update for the aluminium wireless keyboard 2009, and it tells me to connect one and try again. Since I'm here typing this, it is clearly connected.

Any help, would be appreciated to re-instate those fast forward/rewind/volume keys etc.

Hi

Check System Preferences>Keyboard. See if "Use all f1, f2..." is checked. Uncheck that one. Also you can Go to keyboard shortcuts and Restore Defaults

I don't have the option to 'Use all f1, f2,' there simply isn't a box there to check, there's no mention of it.

I've tried restoring the defaults, restarting, to no avail.

What version of snow leopard are you in right now? 10.6.8? I think it just need an update

And oh before updating if you have the original apple usb keyboard try plugging in and check if the Tick box will appear

sadly i don't have a usb keyboard.

it'd be handy if apple would put a port on the wireless keyboard..

when it first happened i checked for software updates: there were none.

i checked again just now-nothin.

and yes, i'm running 10.6.8

If you hold down the 'fn' button the volume keys revert to their functionality as volume/mute buttons.
