my iphone 5 keeps sending mms instead of texts. when i turn mms off and go to send the same message an error come up to say MMS needs to be turned on to send an email?!
All contacts have been put in correctly. please help!
What carrier? Is the message longer than 160 characters?
I've heard of this happening on Verizon. On AT&T and other networks I'm familiar with, long text messages are split into multiple messages and sent as SMS.
Verizon seems to want to treat them differently and send them as MMS instead.
This was driving me crazy but I've cracked it!!
Go to: Settings, Messages, Send & Receive. My mobile number was greyed out and wouldn't allow me to select it. My email address was highlighted but it also allowed me to "Add An Email". I selected my current email address and it gave me the option to delete it. Once I deleted my email address, it automatically reverted to my mobile number!!

Ive found also that when i try to sms someone whose contact details are linked with facebook it does it, like it wants to send the message to their facebook email. when i turn the sync off it lets me send a normal message. Apple need to sort this out!
Are you sure you are messaging to a phone number and not an email address?

yes sure its a phone number. im wondering if its to do with the facebook sync to contacts?

In the settings i start new conversations from my phone number.. and its still starting new messages as MMS??
Settings, Messages, Show Subject Field.
If I have this turned on, and I enter a subject, then it sends the message as an MMS.
I ve had the same problem what sorted it for me was to go into the facebook app in settings and de link it to my contacts
I had to go into my settings , then down to messages, and turn off imessage! It works and now I can send out text messages.
