itunes refuses to start

Hi All, I'm desperate....

Itunes 10 is refusing to start. I have uninstalled, re-installed, and followed all the advise on the following pages:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363

Every time, itunes.exe appears in the task manager for about 10 seconds and then dissapears.

I even tried installing Itunes 9 which loaded, but when I did an upgrade it would close down.

I'm completely baffled by this one.

I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) and have installed the correct version of Itunes. Even tried running in XP compatibility mode but nothing.

Nothing has changed on the PC - same firewall, virus etc.

Any advise gratefully received.

Cheers,

Dave

OK, found the problem. Windows had screwed something up. When I was installing Quicktime it came up as Windows Installer has stopped working. A search on their community website found the following link:

Was specific to Vista but gave it a go and it now boots up and can install Quicktime. I went through the whole process and did a clean boot as well but it may have worked after the "sfc /scannow" part.

If you do the selective startup bit, make sure you go in and change it vack to do a normal boot up afterwards in the msconfig setup else things liek firewall, antivirus etc will not be loaded.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi, Itunes managed to start without installing Quicktime once I'd used the sequence above.

Looking back, I was having issues with Google Chrome last week in that whenever I started typing a web address that would crash as well. Tried uninstalling and installing that without any success. Just tried reinstalling it and it runs great.

Never used thet "sfc /scannow" before but it did find and correct issues. I'll remember that one.

Thanks for the advise.

Dave
