Hi--

Copy this AppleScript to the Script Editor and run it:

set str to "apple"
try
err of (str as Pascal string)
on error m
end try
m's text from -((str's length) * 2 + 2) to -3

That'll give the proper answer of 6170706C65. Obviously, you can change the "apple" to another 5 character string. I didn't think this up, by the way, it came from the AppleScript mailing list (found it via Google).

Also, read this article about choosing a password for multi-platform setups.

Finally, the AirPort admin has a way to show the hex equivalent password, but I don't know if that would apply to a direct P2P connection like you have set up. The version I have (3.4) has a "Password" icon at the top of the window once I log into my base station. If I click on that, it gives me the hex password.
