iPod won't disconnect from computer

Hello, I have just updated my ipod (5g 30gb, black) through itunes, which I have done many times before, and the computer won't let me disconnect the ipod. Normally for me, it says OK to disconnect when it has finnished updating, but it has stopped doing that now.
When I try to eject the ipod, a window appears that says the "ipod cannot be disconnected because files on it are being used by other applications". I have checked and there are only two programs running, one is itunes and the other is Creative Music Source Go, which seems to run all the time anyway.
I have put my ear to the ipod and it sounds like it is doing something.
Can someone please help?

hello Captain!

hmmmm. let's see if we can use the techniques in this article to shut down your Creative Music Source Go. (the article is actually on installation errors, but the techniques are applicable to this sort of situation.)

Close Applications Running in the Background

if you manage to shut down the Creative Source Go, can you disconnect the iPod normally?

I think that could be the culprit.

it's been implicated before. other programs might cause the effect too (which is why i'm a bit concerned about the Captain's strange program), but McAfee Active Scan has been the first one i've usually checked on over the past week or so.

let's try an experiment. try disabling your McAfee prior to a sync. does the ipod disconnect normally at the end of that sync?

well done dvdllr!

if you don't mind, once you've worked out the correct settings in McAfee, could you post back with them?

i don't have McAfee myself. but i've got a couple of other threads on the go with McAfee "another program ..." messages, and we're still at the stage (in those threads) of the "switch off McAfee before syncing" workaround.

Hello, sorry I haven't been back to this thread, but I have Mcafee Virus Scan, and once I disabled that, I had no problems, so I don't think it was creative media source causing the problem.
I can't find out how to just stop Mcafee scanning my ipod, so if anyone reading this knows how to do it, I (and many other people, it seems) would be very gratefull.
Oh, and thankyou b noir.

Sorry (again) about the lateness of this reply! My ipod software is up to date, so that can't be the problem. The only thing I can think of is that it is mcafee that caused it.
Maybe I should get in touch with them about this problem, cos the only way I can get around it is to disable Virus Scan.
Just one more question, is it normall for the creative software to be running? I am asking just in case this is causing the problem with the ipod. I have a soundblaster sound card.

it might also be worth heading to the McAfee website and making sure you've got all the available updates for your version of the Virus Scan.

(we've seen at least one well-documented case of this going away after a while on one PC ... i'm hoping here that we can make it go away by making sure the McAfee is fully up-to-date.)

It seems like it works sometimes, but not others. I've set Mcafee to auto update, but I've always had it set to that.
I'm confused about this whole situation! Why won't Mcafee give a simple way to stop it scanning the ipod?
By the way, what damage can be caused to the ipod if you dissconnect it in that state? I've heard it can damage the hard drive. How likely is this?
It is a bit annoying having to disable the virus scan, because that means I can't go on the internet cos I don't like going on the net without virus protection.
