Q: How do I get iCloud?

I had Mobile Me. It seems to have expired since I cannot seem to get to my email with my password. If I get iCloud will my .me and .mac email addresses be restored to me? And how do I get iCloud? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Unfortunately, it's too late to migrate your old MobileMe account to icloud.

To create a new icloud account, go to

    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

So I have lost all of my email? That doesn't seem right...even with my old archaic pacbell.net email, I didn't lose my email when I changed. I thought Apple was smarter than that.

You had 14 months to migrate your account and you could have backed up your mail at any time, I thought you were smarter than that?

Actually I wasn't sure I wanted to go to iCloud, so I asked at my local Apple Store if I would lose my mobile me email if I didn't go iCloud and they said, "No". Obviously I was given wrong information from that Apple Employee.

Go to www.icloud.com and try to login with your MobileMe credentials, post back.

When I did this, I got the dialog box that my email address "is already added...This account has already been added". However, when I click OK, nothing happens.

Go to System Preferences>iCloud and sign in there

When I do that, it says I have to set up an email account with an @icloud.com ending. It won't let me put in my .me or .mac email address.

Hmmmm, confusing, try using your credential with @icloud substituted for @me

I assume from what you say that you did not migrate your MobileMe account before 1 August? This being the case, the account has been deleted, along with the contents of your iDisk and all stored emails.

You may however be able to retrieve the email address (though not the previous contents) - I say 'may' because the new @icloud.com addresses introduce a variable which is too new for much to have been reported on it.

Anyway, what you need to do is to sign out in System Preferences>iCloud from any account you may be signed into there (you can always sign back in later) then sign in with your ex-MobileMe email address and password. Check 'Mail' in the checkbox there. This should hopefully reactivate your @mac.com and @me.com addresses, and you will also get an @icloud.com address. I can't absolutely promise this will work, but it's supposed to in theory. Note that if you have created an iCloud account already from scratch, you cannot add your @me.com address to it because that is already an Apple ID.
