Persistent Subtitles

I have an Apple TV one. When I watch movies the subtitles stay on screen until they are either replaced by new subtitles or I stop playing the movie and restart it. This has only occurred with recent movies such as The Avengers and Madagascar 3. I understand there was a doubling issue with the Avengers, but I haven't seen any subtitle issues mentioned for other movies. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I have also had subtitle problems on For Your Eyes Only and Casino Royale. The problem was the same as Madagascar 3, Spanish subtitles appearing to translate English Text on the screen. Since the subtitles are not for dialog they are not constant, but they are very annoying when they do pop up.

I have notified Apple each time. They politely apologize and refund my money but the reply is a generic response. As of yet I have been unable to communicate directly with a Supervisor.

I have an older Apple TV, and just noticed the past few movies we bought/rented that the subtitle for things that need a translation pop up and then stick. I have to exit the movie and re-play where I left off to get rid of it. For instance, I rented Argo and a Farsi sign, translated was "US Embassy" or something like that. It showed up and stuck on the screen until the next thing that needed a dialog popped up. Annoying! Same thing with a purchase (Toy Story 3). Subtitles are set to off. Language is set to English, not auto.

Add us to the list with this problem--we also have a 1st gen Apple TV--i spoke to AppleTV support this morning and they said they had "never heard of this problem"--Does that mean they never read these posts ? His only suggestion was to try a "Factory Restore" on the Apple TV to redownload the software. Has anyone tried that (i imagine would be a pain to have to relink to computers and resync the Apple TV but i may try it if no one else has).

I'm not sure when 3.0.2 update occurred, but based on this thread the problem has existed since last October. However, it only started happening to us in the past week. Thanks for saving me from a "restore". I sent a comment in to AppleTV Support asking them if they pay any attention to these threads and posting the link to this one.

Wow...I'm helping out a friend, who is usually technically challenged, and he is describing this crazy problem to me about how text on the screen stays and doesn't go away. He used argo as an example, where the work US EMBASSY came up and didn't go away until the next title. And I'm thinking, no way, these are "captions", these are part of the film, there is no way they could get "stuck" on the screen. I can understand if closed-captioning gets stuck - that's an "overlay" to the movie - but these titles are PART of the movie. So I googled the problem and sure enough, you all are having the issue as well. First, I don't really see a fix here that everyone is having success with. Second, I would LOVE for someone to explain how a title that is part of the movie itself could get stuck.

Hopefully, this gets fixed by apple quickly.
