iPhone 5 bluetooth handsfree- Incoming calls issue

When incoming calls come through my car, I can answer them from my steering wheel, but it transfers automatically to my cell and I have to go into my phone and change it manually to put the call back through to the handsfree bluetooth set.

The phone shows the "audio" feed icon, and in there are three options:

  • handsfree link
  • iphone
  • speaker

It seems that when I answer from my steering wheel, it automatically transfers to the "iPhone" option, and I have to go in manually and change it back to the "handsfree link" option to put it back through my car. I've looked in Settings to see if there is a way to make the handsfree option a default, but I don't see anything.

Anyone have any solutions or similar issues? Is there something I'm missing? This is my first iPhone.

The car is a 2006 Acura TL.

Also have a 2006 Acura TL experiencing the same issue with my iphone 5. I've tried to un-pair and re-pair but still dropping incoming calls. I am able to make outbound calls over bluetooth but incoming drop or go directly to phone. Also, Siri seems to get confused sometimes when i try to make commands directly into the phone while in the car. I've spoken with Acura's HandsFree Link vendor but they tell me i'll probably have to wait for IOS update. Could not come soon enough!

I have 2 devices that use Bluetooth and both had issues with incoming calls.

The first is a Pioneer Nav in the dash unit. I had always used answer immediately with previous iPhones, 3 and 4. With iPhone 5 this would not work, could not hear anything on both ends of call. Configured the Pioneer to answer after 3 seconds and that fixed it.

The second is a Vtech home wireless system. When I answer a call the Vtech hand unit display Call Ended but if I wait about 2 or 3 seconds the Vtech hand unit display Cell On Hold. If I press the answer button again the connection is made and the call proceeds normally. After some testing found out I did not need to wait for the On Hold message. If I press answer twice the call connects OK. Again the iPhone 3 and 4 had no issues like this. I hope Apple releases a fix for this also.

I have the same problem with my Iphone 5 and my 2011 Infiniti G37. I can make outgoing calls through bluetooth, and I can answer incoming calls if my car is in Park. However, when I am driving any incoming call is dropped as soon as I try to answer it through the car. I am returning the Iphone today. My Iphone 4 worked fine with my car and Apple has tried to fix this and can't.

We recently bought the new 2013 Honda crv and have been facing the same issues, however, I have gone in dept and found some necessary details. While the phone is connected to the stereo system of my car, when I receive a call and i pick it up from the car, the call gets connected but no conversation is able to happen on both sides. When I unlock the iphone (that is connected to the Bluetooth), I get 3 available audio options to choose - handsfreelink, iPhone, speaker. Currently handsfreelink is active, which it should be, but in order for any sound to go through I have to manually tap the iPhone or speaker option, then reselect the handsfree option. Everything after that works fine.

Now the reason this happens is because the iPhone is currently locked (whether u have a passcode or not). if you're having the same problem as I mentioned above, then try unlocking your iphone that is connected through Bluetooth, then try calling, and when u pick it up from your stereo system everything should work fine w/ out u having to manually tap anything on your phone.

Now there are several possible solutions to this:

1. You could use Cydia or other third party apps to disable your lock screen permanently.

2. You could set the auto lock to "never" in your settings and unlock your phone and leave it on before start driving.

3. You could disable incoming calls or put them on silent while the phone is locked. I don't know how to do this, but it is possible.

To be honest I don't like any of the options above. I have disabled the phone from my car and will not be using Bluetooth until a real solution is found by apple. I did call apple as well and they said they might be thinking on this for the next upgrade (could take several months) if it is requested by enough users.

Good luck and keep me posted

Same problems with bluetooth phone in a 2012 CR-V as well as problems with the usb connection. If i use the transfer icon on the nav screen after recieving a call I can switch the call to the cars speakers. Sometimes the usb shows connected and no sound. I wonder if the lock screen is causing the problems here too. This seems to be an apple problem as it seems to be happening with more than one manufacturer of car. I plan on calling Apple tomorrow to complain. Upgraded phone.. should not have problems
