I am trying to figure out how to transfer my iTunes from a PC to a Mac. I want my iTunes to be housed solely on the external hard drive and was just wondering if the audio files on the external hard drive can be played on the Mac. Thanks.

Yes but, the drive will need to be formatted for a Mac.
How will I be able to transfer my PC iTunes to the external if it is already formatted for a Mac? I thought the PC doesn't recognize externals that are formatted for Mac
You said you wanted the songs on the external drive to play on your Mac, if this is what you want (you're contradicting yourself here) say so.

But assuming that you have your library on an external disc connected to a Mac it will need to be formatted for a Mac if you wish to play the songs from the external.
My question directly says transfer my PC itunes to an external hard drive so that it can play on a Mac. That's what I'm wondering. I really don't think there was a contradiction there.

It depends on how the drive is formatted, ExFat or Fat will work fine but if NTFS iTunes will be unable to write to it.
Ok thanks. Even though it can't write to NTFS, can Mac read and play the ntfs audio files in iTunes?
Yes it can read them.
