What happened to eMail, can't send from "Mail"

On Tuesday at 2 o'clock every Mac in my office stopped being able to SEND email from their computer. After 7 long worthless hours with DSL, ATT and Tech 360, I still cannot SEND. We can log into the web and send and receive from there, but.....

Anyone know what is going on?

Hi, I've seen a few reports of AT&T problems like this sporadically lately.

In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?

Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...

This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server.

So since WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.

it says the same on all 5 computers:

Trying to *** into this SMTP account failed. Please make sure the password or username are corrrect.

Upon details... this message:

It IS a yahoo/AT&T problem. I called today and at first they said there was no problem. Then, believe it or not, they actually called back about 20 minutes later and said that after receiving additional phone calls, they were able to confirm that SMTP is not working with Mac mail, but it is a problem on there end. They claim it's been esculated and estimate 24 hours to be fixed.

I have a customer who has two iMacs and both simply stopped working end of last week. Doesn't matter which port, whether you our yahoo, outbound or even bellsouth settings. Its broken, however, I can subsitute my Gmail account settings in place of any AT&T settings and it works flawlessly. Thunderbird also works just fine when testing.

AT&T support tried that Friday, but said the problem has something to do with yahoo/s security update causing an issue with Mac Mail and the SMTP /SSL

So does this mean we sit on our thumbs and wait for Apple to figure out a workaround or will it be an AT& T / Yahoo fix?

One tech suggested that we do away with yahoo and have AT&T host our eMail server with our domain name. Does that go around yahoo?

Okay, it seems you are the best guru out there. What is my option?

I have a 5 G5s in my offie and none can send unless we sign into yahoo web base.

Since it seems AT&T and Yahoo are the culprits with this problem. How do we get a work around?

all the G5s are using LION. One is a power pc base all others are intel base.

What is Imap and how do I know if our systems can use it?
