My iPod says do not disconnect but it's connected and wont show up on my desktop

My mom wanted to charge her iPod and my sister wanted to go on the computer. Without thinking she unplugged my moms iPod and now it is frozen saying "Do not disconnect" even if it is conncected. Help?

iPod classic, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Try to reset the iPod by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
