Can't tell you how it happened, but trouble shooting it usually involves starting by deleting your existing backup and trying again. If that fails, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device on the Backups list, then turn off a number of your apps so they aren't included in the backup (tap Show All Apps to access them all), then try again. If it succeeds now, start turning them on a few at a time and backing up. At some point you will probably be able to identify the offending app and exclude it from your backup.
Thank you for your help however I have tried everything suggested, in fact I have tried turning all apps off and it unfortunately hasn't made any difference.
I'm not sure what could be the issue then, unless you are having wifi issues (such as intermittent connectivity) since updating to iOS 6. Here are some general troubleshooting steps for this, but I doubt you'll find much that would be helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3992.
Thank you again I do appreciate it.
You're welcome. Sorry I couldn't get it working for you.
Randers4. I have had the same issue with my iPhone 4S from Verizon. It has not backed up since 10/2/12 and will not when connected to wifi and locked or under manual backup. I have done everything except restoring to factory defaults. I didn't have any problems under iOS 5, but it doesn't seem to be working since I have upgraded to iOS 6. I was going to try the restore today. Any other advice before going to that extreme?
(never mind)
You might also want to check using a public wifi. A number of users are reporting problems specific to their home wifi (particularly people using Comcast/Xfinity Arris routers), but find that things work fine when using a public hotspot.
I will try that. My wife hasn't had any trouble at home with her 4S, so I am wondering if it is just mine.
Thanks for your help, I have tried everything that has been suggested so far bar connecting to a public wifi which I will when I can however nothing has helped, I will just have to keep trying.
Try going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage storage>tap the name of your device under Backups, then under Backup Options turn everything to Off (tap Show All Apps) to get them all. Then try backing up. If it succeeds you'll know that of these items is causing your backup to fail and you'll have to locate it using trial and error (turn some on, back up...keep doing so until it fails again). Once you locate the issue, exclude it from your backup.
Thank you so much I have managed to find the offending app however I really need to back it up because it is my camera app that has been causing all the problem, do you have any suggestions please?
Your welcome. My recommendation is that you import you photos and videos to your computer and delete them from your camera roll (as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083). Then, if you still want some or all of your photos on your device, put them in a folder and sync them back by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing. After doing so, they will appear in the Photo Library album on your device.
Thank you I will give it ago.
You're welcome.
