No signal on my Epson projector when connected to my macbook pro (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4)

I have an Epson projector. It's an ex5210. I also have a macbook pro (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4). I think its the newest one, with the thunderbolt display port instead of the minidisplay port.

This is my set up: macbook to projector, using a minidisplay to VGA adapter with a VGA into the projector. This set up has worked before on my iMac, which is a running an older version. It works fine, just plug and play. I hit "find source" on the projector and it finds the source.dic

No dice here. I've installed drivers from Epson, connected and recconected the VGA cable dozens of times

I have a gig tomorrow and need to figure this out. Can someone, somewhere please help me? Is this macbook and projector just not compatible? Whats the deal? Any help would be appreciated.
