iphoto: "no editable photos"

There are no images that iphoto can "see" to edit. When I attach my iphone 4s ios 5, iphoto can't "see" the phone. If I drag and drop photos into iphoto, it will import them. My iphoto library is on an external drive and I've never had this problem before. I'm running 10.7.5 and iphoto 11 version 9.4.1

Does this involve iPhoto for Mac in any way. Or is it an iPhoto IOs question. If so post in that forum

Well, all I had to do was turn off the computer and start it again, and iphoto worked again.... hmmm
