Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
I have done this multiple times. It continues to restore for a period of time and then returns to the disabled mode. It's like it's been erased, but it really hasn't. This is a 2nd generation iPod. It's very frustrating. Even Apple support seems unable to figure it out. All because my daughter put a passcode on it that she could not remember. She tried to enter it so many times that the iPod is in the disabled mode. I don't have any idea why it continues to restore for a period of time and then just boots back up in disabled mode. I will try this again when it reboots again. Right now it has two hours left in restore.
What is taking the time? Does the download ever complete?
It has never completed the download. It gets down to 35 to 45 minutes and says it timed out.
- Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall and try again.
- Try a manual install using the instructions included here:
Oh! Good idea. I forot to try that.
Well, I was able to get the update downloaded, but it still will not restore the iPod. It brings it back to the disabled screen with no options other than to connect to iTunes. When I connect to iTunes, it does not recognize the device, other than to say enter the passcode on the iPod. Thank you for trying to help, though. At least I was able to get through the update this time. Also, I can't get to the DFU mode that I thought I was in before, because I can't enter the passcode.
Try DFU mode.
Trying that now. I've gotten farther than before! We shall see!
It worked! Finally! 🙂
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
You are welcome
Ive tried many times to restore the same way you did. It get halfway to the update of IOS and the will not complete the full restore. It keeps coming back to the locked sceen. I think im under DFU mode since i have on my screen the USB cable and the ITUNES logo is there
Any more ideas
Same case my daughter forgot her password and locked it up
