I received an old iphone 4s for free and put my sim card in it. I'll get a 5 in January. Why won't my mail load and accept passwords? It keeps saying that servers are unavailable or password is incorrect.

Because the servers are unavailable and the passwords are incorrect.
Maybe you should contact Yahoo for support since the issue is with their provided email account and not the iPhone.
it's useless to contact yahoo as I am very sure what had been input was correct. my solution is to set up the imap and smtp manually, it appears that the yahoo mail settings came with iphone are not working well. just delete the yahoo accounts on your iphone, go add account ...> other > add mail account > input your name, yahoo mail and password. then make sure what you input is what is shown on the imap tab in this link: http://mobile.yahoo.com/mail;_ylt=AnwUFDfWvrQuTWCSbbxmpmdvtQcJ
Thanks for the info. My wife was having the same problem when she upgraded her phone and this fixed it. Also you were right about yahoo being unable to provide assistance in this matter. Not to sure what the point of diesel's response was.
