Why, because some clumsy, careless humans couldn't stop scratching a less that 1/4 inch wide lens?  That is no reason for replacing the lens and pandering to their inability to handle advanced technology is not going to push the technology forward. Tossing out cheap cases like you did for the imagined iPhone 4 antenna "problem" will not fix this VERY real problem. I have been a loyal customer since 2005 and this, as stated in the title, could be your most costly mistake. Either your software engineers are going to have to compensate for the purple tint appearing in photos or you're going to sacrifice massive profits to physically replace the lens in every iPhone 5 you have sold and continue to sell. I've read that Apple customer service has tried to sweep this away by falsely claiming that the purple tint is "normal". It is absolutely not normal by any stretch of the imagination. Do not be silent Apple customers! Let the complaints pour like Niagara Falls or settle for the garbage that has been sold.

 

My former iPhone 4 took better pics.

 

I hope Apple didn't do the same with the pending iPad mini or this could turn into a maelstrom that even Steve Jobs would not have tolerated.

    My iP5 takes perfect pictures colour and focus you have a warranty issue assuming

    you have reset and if neccessary restored

    Calm down, realise that nobody here works for Apple, and take your phone to the nearest place populated by Apple employees, and challenge them. Poiiteness works best.

    This is my 4th iPhone since the original. That's nice that your's is taking "perfect" pics. If your's is doing so then how would you know to resolve the problem?

    How can you confirm that no Apple employees are allowed to use this forum? I already went to the store and was as polite as you could ask for. I was told the purple tint is completely normal.

    As you must have notice, the purple flare occurs when you have a light source just outside the shot. If you shift the camera just a few degrees, it goes away. Yes the effect is more pronounce on the iPhone 5, it's easy to avoid since it appears on the screen before you take the shot.

    Then I would demand to speak to their manager, or their manager's manager...  I see no excuse for your problem that cannot be denied/solved.

    Symptoms

    A purplish or other colored flare, haze, or spot is imaged from out-of-scene bright light sources during still image or video capture.

    Resolution

    Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.

    If the iphone 4 or iphone 3 did not exhibit this problem, then people who upgraded to an iphone 5 should be upset with apple for 'downgrading' the optical characteristics of the lens. Maybe there's even a case for a class action suit. All I can say is pointing any camera toward a strong light source will sometimes create lens flare. Apple's short term solution is correct: tilt the camera slightly or move the camera to a different spot to reduce or eliminate the effect. Has anyone posted comparative lens flare example photos taken with different model iPhones? I would like to see the side by side comparison.

    These are their key source for user feedback and research and development and to think otherwise is clearly a miss guided mind!

     

    As for the lens flare issue I went to my local store and complained and I was told its the first they've heard of it???

     

    So I guess the store staff don't come here, that or they're lying! The manager of the store told me to do the following:

     

    1/ raise a ticket to apple customer care

     

    2/ wait for there acknowledgement of the issue then

     

    3/ return to the store for a replacement

     

    Or as we consumers like to say...

     

    Wait until your distance selling 14 day money back runs out then your stuck with it?

     

    Their official position on the issue is, retake the picture at a different angle. But I've taken images that the angle was unavoidable. What then? Put up with purple pictures? My friends all have SGS3's and are literally laughing at me as this is my first iPhone.

     

    It gives me the ache!!!!

    The hosts that moderate the ASC do browse here. As a rule Apple technicians, engineers, etc. do not. There are simply too massive for anyone to have the time to do so.

     

    Occassionally some might if they are working on a speficic problem, such as battery life or WiFi connection and may contact some posters but it is extremely rare.

     

    Some photography sites have already tested the iPhone 5 and compared it to other iPhones and point and shoot cameras and said this is just normal lens flare that occurs in all of them.

    Try taking the phone out of its case that helped my purple tint issue.
