After my mac has been an for awhile it seems to generate a lot of heat on the bottom side of case. I have a new OEM battery. Is this a normal condition?

Laptops do get very hot. A lot of their heat is intended to be lost by conduction through their base onto the surface they are sitting on, usually a table. If you are using it on a bed or similar soft surface or on your lap, this removes conduction as a method of heat loss.

Using it on a solid surface will increase heat dissapation, making your Macbook run a little cooler.
