how do i upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mt Lion?
I am using Mac OSx 6. it doesn't let me download. it says incompatible

You need to be updated to 10.6.8 which you likely are if you are in the App Store, and second your mac has to be suitable to install MLion. Check this link for supported models.
