Battery Not Charging?

I've recently purchased my macbook pro [3 weeks ago] for educational purposes [univeristy] and it's been working absouletly fine until today.

Heres what happen:

I began to notice that the time period in which it took my mac to charge was VERY SLOW. Then suddenly, around 9pm it stopped charging as the indicator on the battery icon states "Battery Not Charging". Now i've done some research which involves reseting the SMC but it doesn't seem to work because:

1] it doesn't indicate that i've done it correctly by showing any form of evidence when i log in

2] the battery still states "Batterty Not Charging"

I've transistioned from a PC to a MAC and expected the fact that apple is relaible in every way possible, my expectations were wrong!

Please help! I need it fix before my university opens again! [ thanks giving weekend so it opens this tuesday]

Thank you!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

Since the MacBook Pro does not think it is being charged, what does the battery indicater look like? Does it have a plug symbol, a charge level or an elctric bolt inside the battery?

Is the LED on the magsafe connector green or amber? If not lit at all, then the power supply is bad, and you need to get it replaced under warranty. If the magsafe LED is green, it thinks the battery is fully charged, and you have a charging circuit/battery problem (again a warranty replacement).

BTW, have you tried plugging into a different outlet?

Hey, thanks for the response!

Yes I've tried plugging into a different outlet and the issue still occurs!

The symbol is in representation of a plug and the LED on the magsafe connector is GREEN! It's currently at 87% and haven't decreased or increased for roughly an hour [ i also have the charger connected as we speak ]

Have you tried resetting SMC?

The System Management Controller (SMC) is responsible for many low-level functions on Intel-based Macs.

These functions include: Battery management

Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

If this does not help, contact Apple.

Best.

I had this problem, and then noticed I was using the 60W charger like you indicate. The MacBook Pro requires the 85W charger. They look exactly the same except for the markings indicating 60W or 80W, (and some other markings about the amperage) and have the same connector, but your MacBook Pro should have come with the 85W charger.
