Syncing messaging on iPad and iPhone

When I start texting on my iPhone the reply will sometimes go to my iPad and I don't realize it, or I don't have my iPad with me so I miss the reply. Is there any way I can get the texts on both devices, or do I have to turn messaging off complete,y on mt iPad?

check your receive/send settings for iMessage.

if they are sending to your apple ID and are blue not green.

make sure the settings are the same on the phone & the ipad.
