imessage conversations out of order?

Long and short of it... It is a time/date stampped action that occurs on the individual OS X(iOS) device. This then passes through  servers, which also log time/date. Everything on any computing system happens in chronological order and is logged thus. This should be a non issue.  should to fix this. If the ball is dropped with something as simple as keeping time it does not bode well. We truly miss the perfectionism of Steve.

I still have this issue as well. If I close iMessages and reopen it that sometimes fixes the issue until new messages appear.

I really wish they'd fix this bug! It makes iMessages almost impossible to use on my computer since it appears like I'm replying to the wrong message.

This is mind-blowingly stupid. Why are my messages not displayed in order? They are all time-stamped properly... This product has been out for a year. This should take a day of coding to fix. Please, please, Apple. C'mon.

Here is one thing that fixed my problem (so far):

I noticed that only specific messages were starting to fall out of sync. Most of these messages were between my boss and myself accross multiple accounts which I combined into 1 contact. I thought that due to these multiple accounts that the issue was happening. I was wrong.....

I did however notice a small difference between my mac, iPhone and iPad! Make sure all of your devices are using the same "caller-id" to start conversations.

Settings->Messages->Send & Receive

I had my phone number listed there but on my mac I was using my email. I changed both to my email and haven't had the issue since.

Just to let you know, I've had the same error. I've talked to Apple quite a few times on the phone, I've tested this as per instructions from Apple on a clean install of OS X 10.8.3 and the error remained. This got the issue escalated to Apple engineering and they've confirmed that they're aware of the situation and we should stay tuned for a software update.

So I've no date or time when this will get fixed, but it's definitely documented as a bug and Apple is aware of it.

Albert 254... I tried your suggestion to make sure all my devices were on the same send/receive acct, but it didn't make any difference for me.

Every time I wake up my computer from sleep with Messages already open, or send a message from my iPhone, the order of the messages gets mixed up and the conversation is jumbled.

This is a big problem that makes the app useless until they fix it!

So it's a "documented bug"...great. It's also not fixed more than a year after multiple reports started showing up about it.

I've been a a dedicated Apple users since '95 and I'd like the believe that the reports of Apple slipping are wrong, but I'm starting to wonder.

Success is in attention to detail. I'll bet Steve would have agreed.

I, too, have this problem. I have tried all the suggestions, but it remains. Making sure all your devices are set to use the same "Send From" makes sense, whether it helps or not. For me, it does not help.

I am syncing these messages through 4 devices. iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, and Mac Pro. Oddly enough, the messages are in perfect order from iOS to iOS device, but the same conversaions appear in different orders on the two Mac OS X.8.3 devices. Same conversation, messages all in different orders. Also, some times a message never shows up on the Mac even though I am sitting at the Mac (with Messages open) using my iPhone to message. Sometimes my message doesn't show up, sometimes the reply... It's very wonky to say the least.

Talk about a great idea for iCloud being screwed up on a huge scale.

Messages is not part of iCloud at all.

The closest it may get is if you use an iCloud connected Apple ID in iMessages.

The Apple ID used in iMessages does not have to be an iCloud ID.

As you say it is the sync process that is "broken".

It seems these ignore the Time Stamp when sent to the Mac, as they are sync versions, as it were, and not "live" conversations.

Where as the Messages Beta version seemed to only insert Live iMessages into a stream of Syncing iMessages it seems that people are finding it is not only when syncing that the issue appears on a Mac version in Mountain Lion.

I would use http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html stating your Messages version Number and OS Version in the Free text box rather than using the out of Date drop downs (they were never in sync during iChat up to Lion anyway)

I suggest this feedback as Messages is iChat under the hood and continues the version numbering.

Well I have waited long enough, I just switched my entire office of 300 Mac users to Windows 8, along with all of my clients who were on Mac. Over the past 5 weeks I have switched about 5,400 computers in my customer base from Mac to PC simply because of this issue. All of my clients have lost faith in Apple, they simply don't understand how a company such as them could leave a simple bug in their software for so long. I will never use OSX again.

So you switched from Mac to pc because there is a minor, albeit annoying, bug in a minor app that otherwise works great. You switched to platform that doesn't even the feature, buggy or not.

You and I both know it doesn't "otherwise work great". I would say it otherwise works OK at times. Ever try searching within messages? (good luck waiting for it to load) Ever get signed off of imessage for absoloutly no reason then have to reassociate your apple id? Ever have it just crash for no reason?

All of this on multiple brand new Retina 13" MBP's... it's completly unaccecptable for apple to not have fixed this issue. I noticed it all the way back in the beta release for Lion.

Nope. I've never had ANY of those symptoms you describe. I have a 2009 Mac Pro and a brand new (2013) MacBook Air. The only thing Messages does wrong is put messages in the wrong order that originate on my iOS devices.

Now, that being said, I do not use any other service with Messages (Yahoo, aim, etc).

So as far as I can tell, it does otherwise work well.

Issue for everyone, and it couldn't be more annoying. I can't figure out what is going on in my messages...
