iMac G5 RAM

OK guys, here's the deal:

I'm upgrading my iMac.
I read on the Apple site that it maxes out at 2.5MB RAM.
So, I guess that means that, if it comes with 512MB, I must add a 2GB stick to max it out.
BUT, a guy I know, which works at an advertising agency and is responsible for all their macs, told me that the 512MB stick is removable...and that the 2GB stick is too expensive to buy as of yet. And he suggested I go 2x1GB, and sell the 512MB one that came with the mac. I like the idea, but I still have one question: If the 512MB is removable, shouldn't the iMac max out at 4GB??? (Since I could put two sticks of 2GB)
Also, I read on the manual that the memory I need for my iMac is a PC2-4200 DDR2 533Mhz...and that guy told me he talked to an apple person and he said I should get a 667Mhz...he also said it will work as long as it's 200-pin and Samsung...I'm confused now. Help!?

Follow the directions in the manual for memory type, and don't waste money on anything "faster", because it won't work any faster in the iMac than the Apple spec, in any case. Also, there is only one single user-installable memory slot. The original 512 MB is soldered in, so you can only install up to 2GB of additional memory in the one available slot. Be careful where you get your information. Dale Meyn.
