My iPhone has a red light near the earpiece and won't go away
My IPhone 5 has a redlight near the earpiece and I'm concerned about it. Is this bad?

A red light near the earpiece.....I've never heard or seen this. Any chance you can take a picture to show it to us?

I can't right now. But it comes up when there isn't any type of light source on it. It'll go away once I'm outside but when I go inside or somewhere where it's kind of dark, It comes up again.
I saw this on my iPhone 4 but had no clue what it was
I believe its like a sensor that recognizes when you lift your phone for Siri to engage " if you have this enabled" and to recognize a ear on the phone or not. I havent seen it on the iphone 5 but i have seen it before. its more of IR thingy like the remote control receiver in your tv.
Will it do anything to my phone?
No it wouldn't, you should be fine
Hello. It's nothing to worry about. It is the proximity sensor which seems as if a red light is lit, though it isn't a light but just a colour which glows like Radium. It is nothing harmful to the iPhone nor is any sign of danger from the iPhone. A proximity sensor works when you bring your iPhone close to the ear, it makes the screen turn off while you are voice calling to save battery. It happens in all the iPhone and your iPhone is not the only one. Thank You!
if its part of your phone, why would it "do" something to it?
Aditya\'s Apple Is correct on this.
