Why can I not share files anymore now that MobileMe is gone?
Previously, I could send large files to clients via links with MobileMe. I cannot find how to do this anymore. Is this option still available?

No, iCloud does not provide such a service. Look inti Dropbox or Sugarsync for iDisk-like features. Basic accounts are free.
