Solution to ios6 battery drain: delete the podcasts app!

Finally! Relief to find out what was causing the battery to drain so quickly on my iphone 5 (ios6). Simply: delete the podcasts app! By 5pm in the day from a full overnight charge with the podcasts app installed would be around 10%-20% battery left with modest/good use throughout the day. Today at 5pm (with no podcasts app installed on my phone) I have 50%+ still remaining (roughly same amount of use).

Only deleted the podcast app due to its (well documented) bugs and reverted to using the music app.

If you are having battery problems - worth giving it a go!

It worked for me, but this is the umpteenth app that does this. I've wasted more time googling how to save battery than I have using the actual phone. Why bother doing more than texting if all the features drain the battery anyway?? I am first time iphone user and am never buying another one. This one's going on ebay. I am in is a constant battle with the battery. No matter what I try, there's always some other app I need to turn off every few hours. Is this typical? Is every iphone user going throuhg this crap? Infuriating. I was warned about this but didn't listen.

I love Downcast. It's amazing. Apple should just buy them.

It does everything you can want or think of for a Podcast app.

Apple's podcast app is better now, but that's not saying much. I'd never, ever touch podcasts through itunes with Downcast....except I use my shuffle for working out and want my podcasts there too.

If Downcast interfaced with iTunes....I'd cry tears of joy. Mainly because the podcast app is so aggrevating.

When Apple store upgraded operating system to 6.01, battery life deteriorated to extent would discharge 80% during day with minimal activity. As part of upgrade, they installed podcast app. I deleted it and battery drain issue resolved. Fortunately, Apple did not lock the app from deletion as they do with numerous apps tat I don't use such as stocks.

Yeah, I just installed podcasts recently and suddenly my battery didn't last a day.

For the record: I completely restored my iPhone to solve battery issues (with no restore from backup) and I haven't switched off even ONE SINGLE of those background/GPS/ ... you name it settings. Battery is strong. Forget what you read, just uninstall the right apps and you can keep ALL the goodies on.
