I'm using home sharing to listen to music on my iPhone 4S.  I can access the shared library no problem, but when I go to the Album list, not all albums are there.  Everything that I've recently ripped is there but only 9 out of ~40 albums that I imported to the library (vs ripping) are listed.  If I want to access that music, I can search under Artist. 


I checked out the Info on albums that are listed vs those that aren't and I can't see a difference - they both have Artist & Album listed under the Info & Sorting tabs. 


The main iTunes install that is doing the sharing is on a Windows 7 laptop; all the devices accessing the home share are either iOS or OS X.

    I am having a similar issue. When I use home share on my iPhone 5, most of my songs and albums don't show up but if I play a song that is in an album and then tap to see all the other songs in that album, they show up there and can play. Everything was working properly before the new version of iOS.


    The library is on an external network drive connected to a windows XP machine running the latest version of iTunes.

    Ah - I forgot to mention that I upgraded to iOS 5.


    @viper20999: do the ones that you are seeing tend to be ripped by iTunes, purchased or ?  Most of the ones that I'm not seeing are older mp3s that I had imported into iTunes a few months back.

    I've ripped 30 cds in the past couple of days and the most I can see on my iPhone is 27 albums, and the ones that are missing are.not.searchable.  Stuff I ripped yesterday is not available today.  Any answers Apple?

    Try this fix.


    Go to Settings -> Music -> Tap on your Home Sharing Apple ID, and Sign Out.


    Then enter your Apple ID again and password and tap done.


    Then open your Music app and go to more then shared.


    Worked for me.

    Still crashes when you try to find an artist in particular with the search function.

    I have the same issue with an iPad3.

    My iPad3, fully up to date will only show 8 albums from a home share and frequently misses all or some of the album art work.


    Music served by latest iTunes on 10.8.2. Other devices like iPhones and older iPads list all the albums and album artwork without issue.


    Did the log out and back in  of home sharing step last night. Fixed it once and then no new albums were showing (converted a few more cds) and this morning I'm back to 8 albums according to iPad3.


    iPhone 4 ... it is all there, instantly, never needed to log out ordoanything ...


    Quite puzzling. All devices are up to date. Presumably the app would be the same for all IOS devices apart from layout.


    It is strange also how it picks 8. It is not like they were the first or last ones added. Or alphabetically first or last by artist or album name. It spans dozens of albums.

    PS: Also, when I tap the artists button, the screen goes blank. Songs button populates the screen instantly with all songs. Albums I get 8 out of dozens.

    Tapping through on an album with blank cover, it lists the songs and shows the cover?!


    And when I connect to my older G5 with 10.6.8 and older iTunes I get hundreds of albums practically instantly. Artists button works. Everything seems normal.


    But connecting to a mini with same 10.6.8 and iTunes gives issues?

    I had similar problems. What I found is the latest versions of iTunes don't seem to update info in the remote devices automatically. For example, if you add or remove songs in your library, they do not automatically update on the remote devices. The fix is - on each remote device (iPad or iPhone) go to Settings > Music> Home Sharing and sign out - then sign back in. This appears to need to be done whenever the main library is updated or if a glitch in the network occurs. This seems to update or fix whatever stored database is kept resident on the iPad or iPhone.

    I had the same problem as many others in that on my iPad 3 using home sharing I could only see a tiny fraction of the music stored in iTunes on the iMac.  All operating systems and software are up to date (OSX 10.8.2, iTunes 11, iOS 6.0.1), however I've had the problem for approx 12 months, so its been there through several updates.  Turning home sharing on and off in different combinations on each device did nothing useful.


    I finally followed the advice given in an earlier thread to recreate the iTunes library file (Apple support page here), and now all music on the iMac is visible to the iPad via home sharing.  The process took me about 30 seconds and the computer about 30 minutes.


    No risk to the original media files, and easy to do.  Happy days.

    Actually, it wasn't all good news.  iTunes now thinks my iPad has synched with a different library, so I've had to re-select and re-synch every bit of music / video / book on my iPad.  Pain in the arse.  But at least home sharing is working properly...

    I have the same issue where only a small part of the albums/artists show up in the library. I followed the suggestion to sign out and then back into Home Sharing. This attempts to refresh the list, and the refresh is initially successful, but after some time, I get a partial list again :-( Is there a solution for this? I would expect the software to be able to tell when the list is correctly synced and keep working until it is.

    I turned off Home Sharing on all devices, then renamed my iTunes library  (iTunes/General Preferences/Library Name), then turned on Home Sharing on iTunes and then on other devices. Other devices then recognised new Library name and loaded all songs, albums and artists correctly. It seems to have stayed stable for a full day now.

    Does this work for others?

    Hey guys....I was dealing with the same problems for days now and I tried a lot of things. Today I solved the problem ( at least for me) in getting my old router back to work. And it did. After that I've changed back again to my new router and changed the following settings....'s what I did:


    In router settings (not Windows firewall)

    1. Open the TCP port 3689 of computer IP (be sure to enter the right adress of the computer where itunes is located - just find out via cmd.exe and ipconfig)

    2. Open the UDP port 5353 of computer IP (same as above)

    3. And I'm german, so don't know what it is called exactly in english, but you have to change to WPA/WPA2 PSK and use a TKIP key

    not AES or stuff like that.

    Of course you have to open ports in your windows firewall too, but that is probably already done. If not, you should just uninstall and install itunes with all its components again!

    ...or even better:

    use the 802.11 n standard only, if you have iphone 4 or newer or any other capable devices

    Then you can and must use an AES key.
