That's pretty bloody dumb of Apple. Why have a credit card on file at all? So what if it is a "subscription service"? They can just suspend/cancel the subscription if it is not manually renewed at the end of term. This is a pointless bit of data collection on the part of Apple, and does not really serve the publicised purpose.
When you mix that in with the fact that Apple will refuse to accept a credit card number which was associated with any hacked account (even if the credit card number is legit, and the account was inexplicably hacked even though a strong password and 2-Factor Authentication where implemented), it makes the whole process even more frustrating and makes Apple's stupidity in the minutiae of actually handling customers all the more obvious.
This way you can avoid using your credit card number details for iTunes match.
That doesn't solve the problem at all.
The problem I am speaking about is the fact that Apple iTunes demands a credit card, even if you never use it. They do not clarify why they demand the credit card number, and there is no reason to need it - I only use prepaid coupons to finance my Apple purchases.
