Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.

I get the following message after an initial Time Machine backup to external drive:

"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder."

The only way to resolve it seems to be to unselect the drive in TM preferences, quit TM, eject the drive, power down the driv, then start all over.

The drive is properly partitioned to GUID.

Ideas?

Great advice. Pond's site fixed this issue for me. Effectively removed the plist and tried again. Excellent resource.

Concerning the error message with Time Machine which states "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder". The Pondini website suggested by others solved the issue for me. It was easy and even taught me a few things! Here is the link I used . Pondini does an excellent job giving you step by step instructions, even with screen shots. I was blown away!
