I have had my iPhone 5 for a week and a day and the black paint is coming off already! I am 30 years old and take care of my stuff. I have never put it in one of my pockets while there is something else in them. Basicly I have treated this phone like a new born child! I am fuming!

There is no paint. The case is anodized aluminum (which is relatively soft). It will scratch, reveling the shiny bare aluminum under the anodized surface.
This seems to be a common issue with the iPhone 5. Search the forums here for "iphone 5 chips" or Google the same and you'll come up with a ton of user experiences with the issue.
You can either:
1. Live with the scratches/hide them with a case
2. Return the phone & exchange for another
3. Return the phone for a refund and purchase at a later time (if/when manufacturing issues are resolved)
Oh my god this is happening to my iphone also.
