Portable External Hard Drives

My 2.0Ghz MBP doesn't seem to give my SmartDisk Firelite firewire external HD enough power to mount without a power adapter. It works fine on the G4 Powerbook. I'm about to run out to get a Lacie mobile drive, but i wanted to see if anyone has had any luck with them.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Lacie or Maxtor they are both very good. But if you can avoid Lacie d2, they often breakdown after a year. 2 colleagues witnessed this. I have a maxtor 300Gb and a LAcie P3 60Gb and they both rock..

I just picked up an external 80GB Prolific PL3507 Combo Device FireWire / USB Powered Notebook drive, had it installed in a nice looking case for $270 CND. It isn't much bigger than an iPod and have had a great experience loading music file back and forth.

My Firelite 80 gig works fine on my 2.16 Gig MBP.
