Q: how do i link a wireless keyboard to a computer that has been logged into

I have a mac pro which worked with a wireless keyboard.  The 'd' ceased to function, thus i needed to replace it with a new wireless keyboard.  However the new keyboard isn't linked.  I can use the old keyboard to log in because "d" is part of my login password.

So how can a link the new wireless keyboard.  Any suggestions?
