Contact your carrier and they can do it for you by phone number(s). If you have Verizon by chance, you can log into your account and do it yourself, fairly easy.
whoops... I forgot to mention that I am a Vodafone Australia customer and so far I can't find any info that they support text or call blocking.

Yes, but this is a "smart phone". Surely it should be able to handle these duties on its own, rather than having to rely on services offered by the cellular provider. I'd much rather be able to block messages about "SONIC Tots" with a few keypresses, then have to figure out how to create an account for a business phone that isn't my own personal call plan.
Blocking numbers is done by the carrier and not on the phone. Contact Vodaphone to learn more about their service.
You could also list all unwanted numbers in a contact and then assign that contact a silent ringtone and turn of vibration. The texts will still come in but your wont be bothered by them.
But to truly block a number you have to work with your carrier.
Unfortunately, this smart phone can't do that.

You need to contact Vodafone and see if they offer blocking. If the message you wan tot block is an imessage then Vodafone cannot do anything about that
