email sync

I have my mail working fine between the iphone 4s and the ipad3. All folders and anything I do with the mail, but when i check my mail on my Mac it's as if i haven't looked at my mail in days. Nothing gets adjusted like the phone and tablet. Anyone know how to sync the mac to the other two?
