My Powerbook G4 has no sound.

It has no starting chime, no internal sound, no external sound. Nothing. Everything looks fine on the screen. Nothing out of the ordinary, I can toggle the volume and everything, I just can't hear it. I've zapped PRAM, I've tried from a new user, I've rebooted the computer, I've tried the "Command, Option, O, F" thing. I'm not sure if there is anything in particular I should be looking for. I'm no super sluth, and I'm certainly not a techy so use normal human jargon on me, please.

Awaiting my knight in silicon armor,

sincerely, a damsel in tech distress.

P.S. I'm running 10.4.11

not sure if that makes much of a difference

Did this happen after you used headphones or a set of external speakers that required you to use the audio-out jack on the PowerBook?

If so, see this thread:

It's about a different Mac model but the PowerBook shares the same audio port technology so the suggested fixes and my bit about the cause and future prevention apply to your computer as well.
