Spare battery for G4 iBook

Can a G3 iBook 14" battery be used as a spare/operational replacement for a newer G4 iBook 14" 1.42GHz?

I have extensively researched the Discussions and Technical Articles and the implications are that I can. Unfortunately what Apple lists for Battery part numbers in the tech articles are not what we see on the battery itself.

The old G3 iBook Battery number is M8416 (14.4v). The newer G4 is A1080 (14.4v). Both have numerous bar code serial numbers.

I am trying to make the most out of cannibalized parts from my son's old iBook after somebody inadvertently stepped on it and destroyed the screen. Hint: It was not me, myself or I.

Hi Gregory,

Welcome to Apple Discussions

Yes, I believe the 14" iBook G3 and the 14" iBook G4 batteries are swappable. If you look at the iBook Battery 14" it says,

"A 61-watt-hour rechargeable lithium ion battery that provides up to 6 hours of operation depending on battery saving features used and system configuration. This battery is compatible only with 14-inch iBook having two USB ports."

I hope that helps,
Jon
