It may depend on what version of OS X you are running.
I use iMovie 6 on Leopard with Quicktime 7.7
I'm using OSX 10.5.8. I think QT 7.7 might be to advanced for 10.5.8.
Happy to take advice though.
Thanks

It's also worth noting that the QuickTime Pro upgrade is only available for QuickTime 7.

Yes, all versions of QT 7.
Many thanks for the help. I think I'll give the QT 7 a go as I have several third party plugins for iM6 and they have advised not to go too far with QT or the plugins might not work.
Hopefully should be pretty straight forward.

Is it necessary to delete other versions of QT on my iMac?

No, installing the new version will overwrite the old - but what version of QT do you currently have?
I am puzzled as to why Software Update has not taken you to version 7.7. automatically.
I think you mean to say that QT 7 will not overwrite QT X. Both can be there at the same time as far as I know. I have both.

That's my experience, too.
