Safari + Flash = Rough Crash?

After the 10.4.6 update, I've been having a lot of problems with my Flash plug-in. Everytime I go to a site that uses one of those "flash video" setups (like video.google.com), it seems like the Flash Plugin dies somewhere and Safari crashes... hard.

The crash is so bad that "Force quitting" doesn't work. I have to open Terminal and try about a dozen different "kill" commands before the Safari window actually goes away. Even then, OS X still thinks Safari is open and I can't reopen it without logging out and then back in.

Things to note:
This happens in both Camino and Safari.
If I empty the caches using Tiger Cache Cleaner, it will work for a little while and then stops again.
I have tried permissions correction and I got a bunch of errors from the Shockwave plugin but I didn't see any for Flash.
Flash version is 8.0.24.

Anybody have a clue as to what's going on?

Hi Nicholas

this rather standard advice for any problem arising after an OS update - but none the less valid.

Did you do the update via Software Update?

if you did ( and even if you didn't....), I suggest you try the 10.4.6 combo update from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads

if the problem persists - I would next try removing the flash plugins & re-installing them from macromedia's site

I wish I could reply to you with better news. However, even after 1) emptying the cache, 2) rebooting to a backup boot drive, 3) repairing permissions, 4) installing the update again, 5) repairing permissions again, and 6) reinstalling the Flash player, it still doesn't work properly.

I suppose my best bet would be to reinstall OS X at this point, but thank you for helping me either way.

This is a frequent problem with Flash 8 and 10.4.6. I don't know who is to blame for the problem, but my bet is on the Flash 8 Plug-In since it also happens in Camino.

I'm running Flash Player 7 with 10.4.6 and no problems at all, though it's a processor hog as usual.

I have the same problem! My safari crashes so hard that when I try to quit application it stubbornly refuses to quit. The only work around is for me to restart the mac mini manually. Although, this does not happen frequently but I do notice that often when I try to go to websites that has flash or java (specific ones, most works) it would crash bad.

I just hope that Flash will be updated soon for universal application because I have a intel core duo. The only alternative for me is to use Firefox and it does not crash.

I also tried to remove /library/internet plug ins and to my bewilderment, there is nothing there in the folder of internet plug in. Could this be the problem?

Help is appreciated.
