Problem with .dmg files

I have a MBpro retina and I am having problems downloading .dmg files. I bought the computer so i could use autocad and the like, but when i tried to download the file, it said the .dmg file could not be mounted. How can i fix this?

I didn't notice that... I have tried re-downloading it three times now and it always comes up short of 654 MB, could this be due to the fact that i am using campus wireless?

Quite likely, can you use an ethernet connection instead of wireless (wireless is the least reliable and slowest method you can choose)

ok, i was watching the download the entire time, and it seems to get about halfway there and then just jump to completion. can i download it to a thumb drive from a different computer and transfer the .dmg to this one?

That will work if the download completes correctly, if the 'different' computer is on the same network it may not, but at least we'll know where the fault lies if that happens.

In Windows right click on My Computer, select Manage, select Disk Management and you can read the format from there. The vast majority of Thumb Drives are FAT32 (unless very large 128G and up are usually NTFS, 8G is what you need and most likely will be FAT32). If you don't check all you will lose is a little time so it's up to you.
