4th generation ipod shuffle how do you add your playlist with the songs in the order you want

I have a playlist with songs in the order I wish to hear them if I don't wish to have them shuffled. I've been unable to add my playlist to my new ipod shuffle (it's absolutely no problem with my 2nd generation ipod shuffle) in the order I wish the songs to play. It's been putting the songs in by the artist name. How do I have it add the songs in the order I have them listed on my playlist?

iPod shuffle, Windows 7

Here's what I'm doing:

When I connect the ipod to the computer, I click on Devices showing my ipod.

A window opens, and I click on Music.

Sync Music is checked, and I've checked the playlist I want.

I then click on the Sync button at the lower right side of the Music menu.

A display on the menu bar shows "Syncing Music to My ipod," and indicates it is copying 1 of 146 (the number of items on my playlist), and the name of the song.

The songs are all on my playlist, but it is listing them by Genre (I just figured that out), and this is the order in which they are on the ipod.

I guess my question at this point is how/where/what do I select to have the songs synced in the order I have them on my playlist.

I appreciate your input.

I was faced with the same problem you are describing. My shuffle had been playing by artist order, but suddenly switched over to playing by genre. I think this occurred as a result of upgrading.

My solution was to go through my playlist (NOT MY LIBRARY) and delete all the genres I had in there. In other words, leave the genre column blank. My shuffle now plays by artist's name, which is how it used to play.

It was a tedious job, but it works.

Had the same issue. Figured it out. Do not Sync! I have a 2nd generation shuffle, so I don't know if this works for 4th or not

Heres what I did....

1: Open the iPod, click on "on this ipod"

2: Click "Add to..."

3: Click "Playlists" at the top

4: Select all of your songs in the play list "click one song and hit ctrl a (on Windows anyway)

5: Drag the entire selection to "Contents"

Thats it; hope this helps

Fishermi Hi, and thank you for your input. Unfortunately, "contents" is not listed in the new generation iPod display in iTunes. I found it in the older generation I use; I do not have any difficulites with playlist order in the older genration, though.

I did discover, thank you Drumdrinagh, that if I remove Artist, Album and Genre from each song, the list will play in the order I want. I just dislike not having that information available.

Did this work for you? It didn't for me. I still have the same issue. The contents of the list are sorted in the order I want but it syncs by song title. I deleted all the info content of each song except the title. When the sync is happening I can see the order (although it goes by fast, they are in the order I selected) I want but it plays by song title.
