How to sync IPhone

The first time I tried to sync my iPhone 4S on my computer it recognized it as my iPod Touch and synced it to make it identical to that. (I lost all my contacts and apps were moved so my iPhone looked identical to my iPod.) If I try to sync it again is this going to keep happening? I just don't want to sync it and then have to redo my phone setup. How do I fix this?? Thanks

Unless you chose to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to your iPhone when prompted the first time you connected the new iPhone to iTunes, none of the items under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes can be selected by themselves without user interaction.

If you chose to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to your iPhone the first time you connected the new iPhone to iTunes, iTunes did as you selected.
