I deleted contacts from my phone but they still show up when I go to send a text message

The ONLY way to remove this data from your phone, is to restore your phone as a new device in iTunes, NOT from backup. You either do that, or you live with it. Currently, there is no way to edit this data on any iPhone.

Yep. It will look just like it did when first taken out of the box. You then sync your content back to your phone. If you restore from backup, you'll merely restore this data.

wondering if you have another suggestions I had the apple store do the hard reset for me and it still didn't work infact they said I completely stump them and to let them know if I figure out how to get rid of it.

The easiest way to do it is to go to the contact and click on edit. Tap on the box with the name and hit the "x" and delete the name, tap done. Tap edit again and scroll down to the red delete button and then hit delete contact. Now it is gone from ur contacts and also from text ms composer. Go to compose new msg and type the name in...u shouldnt get anything.

When you are typing in an email address, contact name, or phone number your phone looks to the Contacts app but also remembers previously used information. Deleting a contact does not remove that info from the recently or previously used area so the contact info might still appear. Eventually, if the info remained unused, the information will disappear from the previously used information. Patience is the key here.

hello, i tried resetting the phone, but did not know how to syn with restoring, am sorry am new to iphone, and i have to get rid of this "recent other" thing.

how do I syn, without restoring. What I did is reset the phone, then connect to itune by USB, then it asked to connect as new phone or restore.

I almost lost my data when i pressed on new phone, because itunes took a backup, and am left with my phone without my data, then i just went to an old backup and restore the phone, as i had no option to syn, as itunes was empty from all my data.

If the contact you no longer want on the phone shows up when typing in a contact check to see if the unwanted contact has a blue arrow. If so, tap the blue arrow and select delete.

The blue arrow only appears in Mail, not Messages. The only way to delete the contact from the Messages cache is, as noted above, to restore the phone.

I just did this and it worked for me- When the contact starts to autofill, scroll down to the unwanted contact and hit the 'i' info button next to it. There you can select 'delete from recents'.
