Silent feedback from microphone after pressing the record ready and or input monitoring buttons

So, what is different from when you use to record succesfully? The reason I ask is you mentioned "In the past".

Different computer? Operating system? Mic Cable? Location? Monitor?

What OS are you using?

Looks like a bad cable to me, or something blown in the hardware. I'm 60-90 % sure it's not a software problem. Try a 1. different cable, 2. different mic, 3. different input.

Besides the cable suggestion that Erik offered, Mic cable, USB cable....

It could also be a bad ground loop, you are in a different location than before. Are the monitors and macbook both using the same power outlet/power strip? All electronic devices connected to the computer should be running off the same outlet. You can also try using a three to two prong adapter (ground lift) on the monitors.

Silent feedback sounds good to me - a bit like silent explosive.

The pop sound is not good, sounds like you lost the mic input on the mini, a blown op amp. Out of curiosity... what type of Mic is it.

One other thing to mention although it's not said often enough, it's a precaution.

I always disable Phantom power when unplugging/plugging microphones, either end of the mic cable actually. That's 48 volts coming in and accidents can happen. There is also the possibility that the mic could be damaged. Was it dropped or did you have trouble plugging it it with Phantom power enabled. It's more common for the input of the interface to have problems than the mic, but either is possible.

Trying another interface is probably the next step. I would also make sure the Mic is ok, do you know anyone with an interface or mixing board that supplies phantom power? Make sure your cables are good, a shorted mic cable can blow an interface op-amp in less than a second. The Mini may have blown on it's own, as I recall the mBox series did have some problems along those lines.

The general rule with phantom power is, do not plug (or unplug) any device with it on, this holds true for the interface into the computer or to XLR->Mic / XLR->Interface. After turning off phantom power I usually wait at least 15-30 seconds to let voltage drain from the circuits before starting to remove cables...etc.

As you can tell, I'm on the cautious side when it comes to phantom power and mics/mixing boards, I worked at a studio that had mics valued at $5,000 - $10,000 and a mix board that cost far beyond that... always play it safe.

Sure, there's more than one way most anything in Logic.

1. Use the Sample editor, double-click on the audio file, enlarge the sample editor window, zoom in on the pop, highlight the pop and use the "Function" menu to "silence" or "change gain". Careful using the sample editor, read about it a little first.

2. Use "Volume" automation to edit out the pop. Also a bit of reading required. Key command A to activate automation.

It's probably because your interface is hosed, you've recorded a file that has a huge amount of DC Offset so every time you hit play or stop you will hear a pop. The level you see in the pic you posted is actually not silent, or it wouldn't show up in Logic's recorded audio, you just can't hear it.

You can try using the sample editor to remove DC offset but I would test it first to make sure it doesn't completely ruin your recording.

Open a recording in the sample editor, use the edit menu to Select All or Apple-key A, under the functions menu.... Remove DC Offset.

If that doesn't work try using an EQ to remove all frequencies lower than 65hz. It's hard to tell what's going on without analyzing one of your audio files. Do you have any place you can post one of the audio files recorded with the Mic input?
