Mac book pro early 2011 and apple tv

I have a early 2011 mac book pro and recently downloaded mountain lion but can not get the mirroring feature to work on apple tv. Some resources seem to say it will work on early 2011 and others say it needs to be late 2011 or newer??? Should I take the apple tv back and if so is there a way to unload mountain lion?
